As Remembrance Day approaches, poppies have gone on sale once again in the Quinte area.
The tradition began in the 1920s when disabled, out-of-work World War One veterans began producing the poppies for sale.
Commanding Officer of the Hastings Prince Edward Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Comeau, tells Quinte News that hasn’t changed.
Colonel Comeau says the Regiment will be marking Remembrance Day, beginning this weekend and on November 11.
The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, a reserve regiment is 150 years old.
Colonel Comeau says it has fought in the Northwest Rebellion, both World Wars, Korea, Afghanistan and Bosnia.
It extends across Eastern Ontario with local units in Belleville, Cobourg and Peterborough.
He says anyone wishing to join can call 613-966-2108.
