Round one of the “Battle of Quinte” went to the Trenton Golden Hawks Friday night, as they defeated their arch-rivals, the Wellington Dukes, 3-1.
Michael Silveri scored twice, including the game-winner late in the second period and added an assist. Liam Morgan also contributed three points with a goal and two helpers, and Brandon Marinelli assisted twice.
Mitchell Mendonca had Wellington’s only goal.
Chris Janzen stopped 29 shots for Trenton in earning the victory, while Connor Ryckman made 37 saves in a losing cause.
Just over 1,000 fans filled the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens in Trenton.
The Golden Hawks have the rest of the weekend off, while the Dukes head to Oakville to take on the Blades tonight (Saturday). Game time is 7:30.
