A local elementary school has been awarded a massive tulip garden, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
Wednesday morning, at St Joseph Catholic School in Belleville, students and teachers gathered to announce their garden, which will feature 1,000 tulips in 2017.
Grade 5 teacher Susan Robinson is in charge of the garden and says they are excited to be a part of something coast to coast.
Greg Speagle is Chair of the Board for the Algonquin Catholic Board and says this is a nice feather in the cap of the school.
The 500 red and 500 white tulips will be planted in the spring and officials say they want residents to know it’s as much their garden as the school’s.
