Quinte Conservation officials say conditions across the local watershed are improving, after last week’s rainfall, but we are still in a Level 3 Low Water Condition.
Over the past week, the Prince Edward, Salmon, Napanee and North Moira watersheds all got about 800 mm of rain, while the South Moira watershed saw between 50 and 70 mm.
QC’s Jennifer May-Anderson tells Quinte News both stream flows and ground flows are improving across the region, but residents are still being asked to reduce water consumption by 50%.
May-Anderson says it’s good news, but still leaves the watershed about 120-150 mm short of its typical levels and we could need even more rain than that, to get the levels back to where they should be.
She also says that rain needs to come slow and steady, over the course of a few days and not just in one big storm, so the ground is able to absorb the water.
