Prince Edward County fire officials have determined the cause of a fire that gutted a small house on Big Island Friday night.
Fire Chief Scott Manlow says the cause was improper storage of combustible materials near a woodstove in the garage.
About $150,000 damage was done in the fire, but the residents escaped safely.
The home was insured.
