Belleville city council sits down next week to consider the 2017 budget for capital projects.
Council has set aside three days, beginning Tuesday, to consider the draft multi-million dollar budget presented by staff.
Treasurer Brian Cousins will begin with an outline of 2016’s near $22 million budget which he says in his report was 80% maintenance and rehabilitation.
This was increased in September with $20.5 million for renovation of the Yardmen Arena.
The staff recommended 2017 budget includes 105 projects totalling $36.2 million.
Tax supported projects show a tax increase of 3.4 %.
Cousins says 70% is directed toward asset maintenance and replacement.
This does not include the Mayor’s Implementation Task Force recommended $12 million for downtown Phase 3, or an additional $1.7 million for the Mineral Road and Maitland Drive $10.2 million reconstruction work .
