Northumberland County’s homelessness programs are getting a significant boost from the province.
MPP Lou Rinaldi has announced a commitment of just over $2 million,, over two years, to go towards the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative, part of $632 million being doled out for homelessness prevention programs province wide.
The money will be used locally to provide emergency financial help to prevent eviction, fund long-term and transitional housing, as well as province integrated supportive housing for people with specific access needs.
The province says last year the program helped almost 40,000 families and individuals to obtain housing and helped more than 115,000 people at risk of homelessness, remain in their homes.
