Police departments across the province are joining forces in a campaign against cyber criminals.
October is Cyber Security Awareness month and the OPP is focusing on four major topics including: free WiFi use/password protection, phishing scams, email attachments and online child safety.
According to the OPP, 80,000 people unwittingly fall prey to scams everyday and in 2015, scams earned criminals an estimated $1.2 billion from Canadian victims.
Quinte West OPP Constable Dave Ludington said phishing scams are one of the most common types of online crimes.
Ludington explained the easiest tip to protect yourself is not to share any personal information over internet.
