The design work for Trenton’s proposed new $6 million fire hall was unveiled for Quinte West council Monday night.
Deputy Fire Chief Dan Smith and architect Michael McKnight, of McKnight Charron Limited Architects presented plans for the 20,000 square foot facility to be located on Dixon Drive.
Smith explained how the new hall is ‘much bigger’ and offers more space for current and future employees.
The new hall, promising to plan for 30 years into the future, features four bays for eight vehicles, administration offices, a storage garage, locker rooms and sleeping area.
Fire Chief John Whalen says there are some big differences with this three floor facility that are going to make their job more efficient.
The design mirrors the fire hall McKnight Charron Ltd designed in Collingwood. Whalen said it was through his friend Trent Aleya at the Collingwood department, that they attained the designs, saving the city $200,000 in related costs.
Councillor David McCue who also toured the Collingwood site said “it’s gorgeous and state of the art.”
The entire capital project is included in the 2017 budget discussions.
