Trent Hills Mayor Hector Macmillan heads to Germany Sunday October 2, 2016.
Macmillan, who has been in a public fight over his cancer treatment will receive treatment for pancreatic cancer.
He tells Quinte News when he returns to Ontario after the surgery, he wants to work to get the treatment covered by OHIP.
Macmillan says he is very confident in the success of treatment.
His treatment is called Irreversible Electroporation.
Macmillan says the surgery will be about a quarter the cost of going to Kentucky, where he was expected to pay around $300,000.
