As a result of several complaints of mischief in the Brighton area dating back to February 2016 the Street Response Team (SRT) of the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police entered into an investigation of all related incidents.
As a result of this investigation, an 18 year old Cobourg man was arrested on September 25, 2016 and charged with 12 counts of Mischief Under $5,000 and two counts of Failing to Comply with a Recognizance. He was released with an impending court date in October 2016.
These charges relate to mischief committed in the Smithfield area of Brighton involving several road signs, a vehicle, a building, a Canada Post mailbox and Smithfield Public School. Another charge relates to an incident in the Municipality of Port Hope at a business on County Road 28. The remainder of the charges relate to incidents in the Town of Cobourg, the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County.
The total estimate of repair costs is in excess of $20,000.
The name of the accused person is not being released.
