Ontario says it doesn’t need extra power so it is cancelling plans to sign contracts for solar, wind and renewable energy sources and the local opposition MPP thinks it’s about time.
Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says the decision will keep rates down for consumers and save the province 3.8-billion dollars.
But MPP Todd Smith tells Quinte News, while it’s a good decision to make, the savings will still seem fairly minimal.
Smith says the government shouldn’t have signed the deals in the first place.
Thibeault says decision was made after the Independent Electricity System Operator’s planning outlook determined Ontario has a robust supply of electricity for the next decade. (The Canadian Press)
