Next month is Child Abuse Prevention month across Ontario.
The highlight locally is the Purple Ribbon Campaign which will feature Go Purple hockey games and a Go Purple day where everyone is encouraged to wear purple to highlight the ongoing problem of child abuse and neglect in our region.
The campaign is spearheaded by Highland Shores CAS and The Children’s Foundation which serves Hastings, Prince Edward and Northumberland Counties.
Jennifer Bishop of Highland Shores CAS said child abuse and neglect goes hand in hand with alcohol and drug abuse, and poverty, adding about 1 in 5 children in the Quinte region live homes with income below the poverty line.
Connie Reid of the Foundation told Belleville council that purple ribbons, pens, and T-shirts are available for sale at the Foundation offices.
