Belleville city council held 2 meetings and a big event today (Monday).
All 3 occasions involved a professional hockey team, the Belleville Senators, coming to a vastly upgraded
Yardmen Arena late next year.
At its last meeting of the day, city council passed two bylaws involving the hockey club.
One was a lease and licensing agreement with Belleville Senators Incorporated, and the other
was a loan agreement involving the city, Belleville Senators Inc., and Belleville and Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.
Details of the agreements were not released. Belleville Clerk Matt MacDonald said much of what was contained in both agreements was personal information and both were still covered under a non-disclosure agreement.
MacDonald says he and the city’s lawyer will be working on what they can release to the public about the agreements over the next few days.
He advised those interested to write the clerk’s office at city hall.
Meanwhile, Mayor Taso Christopher told Quinte News that the city was not loaning anyone any money.
