The Belleville Police Service responded to 57 calls for service between 24 September 2016 at 5:00 a.m. and 25 September 2016 at 5:00 a.m.
Break & Enter, Assault with a Weapon & Theft Under $5000
At approximately 1 a.m. this morning city police were called to a South/East residence in regards to a break & enter in progress. A resident awoke to noises coming from inside his apartment. The victim was confronted by 2 male suspects inside his residence who had bags of gaming electronics that belonged to the victim. The 2 suspects immediately ran out of the residence and were chased by the victim. The resident was able to grab onto one of the bags one of the suspects was carrying when the other suspect turned on him and began swinging at him with a foot long screwdriver. The victim was able to avoid being struck with the weapon and received no injuries. The suspects continued off on the run leaving some of the stolen items in the yard but made off with a couple of devices. The victim was able to give police a detailed description of both suspects. City police flooded the area with multiple units and shortly thereafter located the suspects south of Dundas St. E. near Belleville General Hospital. Both suspects were taken into custody by police and were found to be in possession of the stolen items and the weapon used in the assault.
19 year old Belleville resident, Tyler Messom was charged for Break & Enter, Theft Under $5000 & Assault with a Weapon.
18 year old Thurlow Twp. resident, Daniel McDonell was charged with Break & Enter & Theft Under $5000.
Both accused have been placed on strict conditions & will appear in Belleville Provincial Court on October 20th, 2016 to answer to their charges.
