The celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the Belleville Farmers’ Market kicked off yesterday.
Bustling crowds were treated to live music, cake and family activities kicking off the bi-centennial celebration for the jewel of downtown Belleville.
Municipal, provincial and federal dignitaries presented commemorative plaques for the 200th anniversary event.
Hazel Lloyst, spokeswoman for the bi-centennial event, said that festivities continue today with a Long Lunch from 11 p.m. till 3 p.m. The community is invited to join in a hearty meal at the Market Square prepared from local produce while enjoying live entertainment.
She said the hope is that the Long Lunch will become an annual event at the market.
