UPDATE 12:15 p.m. OPP confirm a plastic pellet gun was recovered and no charges will be laid in the incident. Investigation is ongoing.
A man has been taken into custody following a search that forced a lockdown at three schools in Trenton Friday morning.
Quinte West Constable Dave Ludington said at 9:30 a.m. the detachment received information about a man in the area of Tripp Blvd. and Dundas Street West carrying what appeared to be a long gun.
He was described as wearing a brown leather jacket with the hood up and was also observed carrying a dark backpack.
Police put Trenton High School, Saint Paul Catholic Secondary School and St. Peter’s Catholic School into a hold and secure as a precaution.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m. officers located the man and took him into custody.
Ludington confirmed police recovered an Airsoft rifle (plastic pellet gun). He said it wasn’t being used in a manner that put the public in danger. No charges will be laid however the investigation is ongoing.
All schools have since gone back to normal activities.
