Large amounts of medical waste stopped the sorting line at Quinte Waste Solutions’ recycling plant in Trenton on Thursday.
Quinte Waste Solutions spokesman Dan Orr said the source of the medical waste is unknown, but staff are currently looking into possibilities.
He added this is a serious health and safety concern.
Quinte Waste Solutions is reminding all residents and health care providers that medical waste including I.V. bags, tubing, syringes including the plastic parts, etc. are not accepted in the blue box program.
