It’s almost time to lace up for the 13th annual County Marathon.
The 42.2 km race, over relatively flat terrain, will take runners past three lakes and through three villages on October 2.
The full and half marathons are Boston Qualifying races certified by Athletics Canada.
Mark Henry race director says the whole County is coming together again pulling for runners. He adds they’re pleased to announce local dairy farmers will be providing chocolate milk after the race and Mayor Robert Quaiff and council are also participating.
‘Quaiff’s Quicksteppers’ have been training for the big day.
Mayor Quaiff said it was fitness instructor Tracy Powers who had the vision of getting the County fit and thought there was no better place than to start with the mayor and council. He says he and four other councillors Gord Fox, Jim Dunlop, Bill Roberts and Steve Ferguson are up to 10K everyday.
Councillor Roberts says they are excited to do the full marathon.
Online registration closes Thursday September 22 at 10:00 a.m. however you can still sign up with Race Manager Kailey Ellis Chapman. Her contact info, plus race details and tour maps can be found by clicking here.
