Crime calls may be down in the city of Belleville however assaults and break and enters saw an increase in the second quarter of 2016 compared to last year.
During the second quarter of 2016, there were 1237 crimes reported down from the 1510 reported in 2015.
Actual assaults jumped from 109 in 2015 to 123 in 2016. There were 67 break and enters in 2016 up from 55 in 2015
At the police services board meeting Wednesday, Belleville Police Chief Cory MacKay said any increase in crime stats is a cause for concern.
On a good note, robberies decreased considerably. In 2016, there was one robbery down from 10 last year.
There were no homicides reported for the second quarter in 2016 or 2015.
The Belleville Police Service 2015 Annual Report is expected to be released soon. Rough 2016 numbers are expected in January 2017.
