The results are in from standardized provincial testing, for Hastings Prince Edward School Board students in grades three, six, nine and ten and it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
Primary and junior students made gains in reading and writing, but math scores were down, with only 50% of primary students and 34% of junior students, meeting the provincial standard.
Superintendent of Curriculum Cathy Portt says the drop in math scores is a trend Ontario-wide.
For grade nine math, 80% of academic students and 51% of applied students made the standard.
Meanwhile, Portt says, the increase in reading and writing scores actually follows a long-standing trend for the board.
Fifty-nine percent of primary and 72% of junior students met the provincial standard in reading, 61% of primary and 65% of junior students met the standard in writing and 92% of academic grade 10 students passed literacy testing.
