The clock is set and for many across the country the countdown is on to Canada’s 150th Birthday celebration.
Like most, Quinte West is no different.
Monday night, the municipality sparked a Canada 150 working group aimed at reviewing potential projects the city may undertake to celebrate the nation’s birthday in 2017. Mayor Jim Harrison, councillors Duncan Armstrong, David McCue and Bob Wannamaker volunteered and were appointed to the task.
Chief Administrative Officer Charlie Murphy said it was important to get the committee going now so they can look at what events they can plan throughout the year, not only for July 1.
Current approved projects in the queue are: a “My Community My Canada” video project; a Canada 150 student poster contest and a city hall tulip garden at a cost of $7,000.
Councillor Armstrong said some other great ideas out there that he would like to explore more are the re-dedication of Centennial Park, a time capsule put in and a large flag on Mount Pelion.
