An investigation focusing on the illegal production of marijuana in unsuspecting farmers’ fields has led to charges against three Belleville men.
On Tuesday, members of the Belleville Police Service Drug Unit, Emergency Response Team and members of the OPP Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a traffic stop in the Thurlow Ward of Belleville and arrested two men.
Following the traffic stop, police executed three Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at residences in Belleville and Thurlow.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had planted marijuana plants throughout fields in the Thurlow ward of Belleville, Thomasburg and the Melrose area.
As a result of the search warrants and the vehicle stop, police seized a quantity of marijuana plants, cash, digital weigh scales and a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Charged are 39 year-old Adam Rushlow, 34-year-old Adam Weed and 45-year-old Jeff Gray.
Rushlow is charged with Production of Marijuana (5 counts); Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime
Weed is charged with Production of Marijuana (2 counts) and Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Gray is charged with Production of Marijuana (3 counts) and Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking
Gray and Weed were released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date and Adam Rushlow was detained in custody pending a Show Cause Hearing scheduled for September 15.
