Hastings—Lennox and Addington. Mike Bossio, Member of Parliament for the riding of Hastings—Lennox and Addington, invites all youths from the ages of 15-19 to apply to his new Constituency Youth Council (CYC).
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has said that “young voices must be part of our decision making process”; that is why Mike Bossio is launching this new initiative to bring together 10 to 20 young people from his riding, in order to engage them, and listen to them on the issues that matter to youth in our country. It is important that young Canadians have their say and can share their views and ideas with the government.
As part of the Canadian government’s commitment to meaningful youth engagement, the Hastings—Lennox and Addington Youth Council will accept applications until Friday, September, 30, 2016. The CYC will include youth from different schools, neighbourhoods, and local associations. Once selected, the Council will meet several times throughout the year to discuss a number of issues that could include climate change, access to employment, LGBTQ issues, peacekeeping, and other topics that matter most to the community.
On the one hand, the Member of Parliament will learn more about the views of youth from his region through discussions. On the other hand, young people can network with the other participants, and better understand the Canadian political process as they take part in it.
To apply: Applicants must complete and submit the form, which is available at their MP’s constituency office, Facebook page, or official website. Applicants can find out who their MP is by checking with their school guidance counsellor. Applications are due by midnight on Friday, September 30, 2016.
