The “skyrocketing cost of energy is hurting small businesses” is the message provincial Progressive Conservative politicians heard from local business at a Round Table in Belleville on Monday.
The Quinte West and Belleville Chambers of Commerce held the round table, focused on understanding the impact of government policy on small business, with local business leaders, at Belleville Public Library.
Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says he has heard the same message across Ontario and that the Liberal government is not doing anything about it.
Fedeli says there is a big mismatch in the training of people for jobs but there are jobs without people to fill them.
Belleville Chamber of Commerce executive director Bill Saunders says any time a business owner can sit down directly with an elected official and express concerns it has a better chance of affecting change.
Prince Edward Hastings MPP Todd Smith, who had been the first Critic on Red Tape, says small business owners are being “smothered” in red tape.
