The Loyalist College Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre is getting a new name.
On Friday (tomorrow), a ceremony will be held at the College in recognition of the support provided to a campaign by the citizens of Belleville, Quinte West, Hastings County and Prince Edward County.
The Skills Centre was built with a $16.6 million investment from the provincial and federal governments. Funding was received through the federal Knowledge Infrastructure Program with matching funds from the provincial government. In addition, a capital campaign raised funds to complete and equip the Skills Centre, and to provide student financial assistance. The support from Belleville, Quinte West, Hastings County and Prince Edward County totaled $1,480,000 and helped make the Skills Centre a reality.
The Skills Centre, which opened in 2011, features 50,950 square feet of repurposed ‘green’ space, and an additional 70,850 square feet of new, flexible space for teaching, laboratories, shops, research labs and classrooms. LEED® Silver certification was awarded in 2014.
College President Maureen Piercy and Chair of the Board of Governors June Hagerman will attend, as will Municipal leaders/representatives from Belleville, Quinte West, Hastings County and Prince Edward County.
The ceremony is expected to begin at 11:30 Friday morning in the Link Lounge.
