The children’s services agency just east of Belleville, including Napanee, says its program to send children, who are not directly in its care, to summer camp has been a success.
About 70 children in families participated in the program this summer.
Spokesman for the Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services, John Suart, says they are children who live at home but need help.
Suart says their research shows 80 % of these families would not have sent the children to camp without Children’s Services’ staff to help make arrangements.
The government funding doesn’t cover Summer Camp for these children, who are receiving services but who are not in the agency care, and the agency depends on donors to make the Summer Camp program work.
The agency expects to raise about $15,000 for the program.
