A major construction project to make Belleville’s City Hall more accessible will get underway this fall.
Earlier this year city council decided to make a major adjustment to the elevator to meet provincial standards for accessibility.
The present elevator will be lowered to the floor of the entrance.
Chief building officer Ted Marecak says while work is underway the public will enter from Market Street and those with disabilities from market square.
Marecak says the project has been held up by the elevator parts delivery.
Some work will begin in the next couple of weeks to clean up the basement area on the Market Street side, where the public will use the stairs to reach the main floor level while construction is underway.
The budget for the project is $483,000.
