Some changes to water usage in Prince Edward County.
At a special meeting of council Thursday, council changed bylaws of water usage and the price of bulk water purchases.
Water purchases will go from $4.13 per cubic metre to $3.07 per cubic metre, with the price change getting a subsidy from a reserve account.
Meantime, residents could now also face punishment for watering lawns, or cleaning driveways or washing cars.
Councillor Kevin Gayle says in a Level 3 Low water warning, this legislation should not be needed.
Councillor Barry Turpin says the goal is to educate, not punish.
Officials with Quinte Conservation say we need four inches of rain to get out of a level 3 warning.
