A 38 year-old man will be sentenced in October, for sexually assaulting his young step-daughter, in the Bancroft-area, over a four-year period.
The man, who can’t be named to protect the victim’s identity, was found guilty by Justice Wolf Tausendfreund in April, following a five day trial in February.
He was found guilty of both sexual assault and sexual interference, for inappropriately touching his step-daughter, both over and under the clothes, multiple times, between 2010 and 2014, when she was under 14 years old.
Crown Attorney Lynn Ross told court Tuesday, based on the circumstances and similar case law, he should get a sentence on the high-end of one-to-four years in jail, while defense lawyer William Watson suggested a term of eight-to-12 months would suffice.
Justice Tausenfreund has asked for some time to consider both submissions and will hand down a sentence at 9:30 a.m. on October 7th.
