Sagonaska Demonstration School is going to stay open.
Monday morning, the provincial government announced its decision on the future of the school and those like it across the province.
Earlier this year, there was major concern the school may be running its last lap, due to funding issues.
The province says following extensive public consultation with family, education experts and community members, they have decided to leave the schools open.
MPP Todd Smith says the government has come to their senses.
Smith says so far the government has not commented on how long they will remain open.
Sagonaska Demonstration School provides education for students suffering from severe learning disabilities.

We have been waiting a very long time to hear the Minister of Education state that the Demonstration Schools across Ontario are an invaluable resource that need to remain across the province of Ontario. She has guaranteed that these schools will remain open. She did not state for how long and we will ask her this at our earliest possible convenience.
We are willing and always have been willing to work with the Ministry- they have never given us the opportunity until now.
Many of us ( parents) would love to sit on an education task force to work with Mitzi Hunter to guide the ministry in the right direction with matters such as creating awareness, creating a more streamlined application process, ensuring more children across the province receive the proper testing to ensure a correct and timely diagnosis. To encourage them to roll out the Empower reading program and give our great teachers in Ontario the tools , training and resources that will enable them to teach all children across the province regardless of their disability.
We are extremely pleased with the announcement. We will take this not as a victory for us but for the children across the province of Ontario who have learning disabilities or who struggle with Dyslexia.
