As Napanee’s Britt Benn gets ready suit up for Canada’s Women’s 7s rugby team in Rio de Janiero another local athlete is on the radar for 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.
17 year old Belleville native Tia Svoboda has been named to a 12 player Canadian National Squad for next months “Under 18 Women’s Sevens Rugby Championships” in Vichy France. “Sevens” head coach Sandro Fiorino says they’re well into the Tokyo 2020 quad cycle and the upcoming tournament will be an opportunity to evaluate and fill spots.
Svoboda is a graduate of Centennial Secondary School and has already competed for the National side at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa last September.
