Quinte Waste Solutions is putting an end to a pilot project, aimed at collecting more used batteries from residents and making sure they are properly disposed of.
The Battery Buddy Project, which saw users place a small battery collection bin out with their recycling each week, is being stopped due to lack of participation.
QWS spokesperson Dan Orr tells Quinte News only a fraction of the residents in Tweed, Belleville and Quinte West, actually took part in the nearly year-long pilot project.
And Orr says, even though that program is being halted, there are still a number of ways to get rid of your old batteries.
Orr says it’s crucial to dispose of batteries properly because they can be harmful to the environment, if they end up in landfills and they contain all kinds of recyclable materials, that can be reused as well.
