A pair of local chambers of commerce want to make sure a review of Ontario’s Labour relations and employment standards acts won’t hurt employers.
The Belleville and Quinte West Chambers say the recent Changing Workplaces Review interim report includes several policy options that would be bad for business.
Among the major concerns, a scheduling provision, which would make a one-size-fits-all approach to scheduling, something the chambers say “fails to recognize the diverse needs of Ontario’s workforce”.
The report also includes hundreds of other options, when it comes to creating new workplace guidelines.
The chambers also say one of the critical first steps to improving workplaces in Ontario, would be to increase education and enforcement of the provinces existing labour laws.
