The MP for the Bay of Quinte riding says a case has been made to bring a veterans care centre to the Quinte Region, but we won’t know for a while if it will happen.
After meeting with members of the Our TMH group this morning, Neil Ellis tells Quinte News money will be put aside in the 2017 budget, to create two “centres of excellence” for veterans care, somewhere in the country.
Ellis says a local committee, made up of federal and provincial politicians, healthcare officials and reps from the Military Family Resource Centre has already presented a proposal to a house of commons working committee earlier this year.
He adds, it’s still too early to tell where the centres will go, if they’ll be stand alone buildings and what facilities they’ll include, but the commitment will be there.
A report from the house of commons working committee is expected back in the fall, with detailed commitments to be outlined in a future federal budget.
