Officers from the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 84 calls for service during the past weekend. Those calls were between Friday July 22nd at 4 p.m. and Monday July 25th at 8 a.m.
Some of the types of investigations conducted included domestic disturbances, Liquor Licence Act calls, noise complaints, traffic complaints and subsequent enforcement and motor vehicle accidents. RIDE checks and bar patrols were also conducted throughout the community.
Of interest, at approximately 2:22 a.m. on July 25th, 2016, an 18 year old male was involved in two separate traffic incidents. The young man was stopped by Officers on Ontario Street in the Town of Picton, where it was determined he was a G1 driver, and was not accompanied by a qualified driver. He was issued a Provincial Offence Notice, and then several minutes later, was observed by the same officers driving another vehicle. Officers attempted a second stop, but the driver failed to stop for the officers when he was signalled to do so, and collided with a stop sign.
Charged with Failing to Stop, Careless Driving, and Being an Unaccompanied Driver under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario is Joshua Stechnicki of Picton. He was issued a Summons with an appearance date of August 19th, 2016 in the Provincial Court of Justice in Picton.
