Two houses, sitting side by side, were heavily damaged by fire early last evening in
Belleville.
An off duty Belleville firefighter and some of those from other fire departments competing at the Scott Firefit Championship were at one of the homes when they noticed smoke coming from the house next door at 240 College Street East.
They immediately made sure the occupants got out safely.
Both of the homes suffered significant damage but are still standing.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to help with an investigation for a cause.
Belleville fire crews responded to a general alarm at 7:04 last evening (Saturday).
The houses are across from the Via Train station on College East.
