A major fire at an Amherstview apartment complex late Saturday afternoon has left a firefighter dead.
About 5 p.m., crews from the Loyalist Township fire department were called to 339 Amherst Drive, where one of the apartment units was engulfed in flames.
While battling the blaze, 45-year-old crew member Patrick Pidgeon suffered injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to those injuries.
The former Canadian Forces veteran leaves behind his wife and teenage son.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing the investigation.
