The issue of a “failed bid” to obtain Belleville support for a solar panel installation on two schools is not over.
The solar company intends to appeal.
Earlier this week city council voted five to four to NOT support the application by Ameresco Canada to put solar panels on the roofs of two schools, Susanna Moodie on Avonlough Road and Foxboro Public on Ashley Street.
In an interview with Quinte News, company director of construction Frank Miceli refuted the numbers quoted at council that renewable energy contributes to the high cost of electricity.
Micheli says the company is looking at all options, including appeals and possible legal action against the city and/or the Independent Electricity System Operator.
City clerk Matt MacDonald tells Quinte News the city supported the original request for support by Ameresco Canada on October 9, 2012.
Miceli says that was for solar panels on nine schools. The installations at seven schools went ahead, but he says the final two were delayed “through bureaucracy” at the provincial level.
MacDonald says any motion to reconsider council’s Monday decision would require a two-thirds vote in favour of the reconsideration.
