Two of Belleville’s parks are getting upgrades this summer involving their playgrounds
The playground equipment at Thurlow Park playground, installed in the 1980s, had to be removed since it no longer met Canadian safety standards.
City council had budgeted $300,000 for the park.
This week council awarded a contract to ABC Recreation Limited for just under $186,000 to install new play equipment.
The remainder of the budget will be used for site preparation, including drainage, creation of a walkway to the site, and engineered wood fibre protective surfacing.
The same company was also awarded the contract to replace the junior playground structure for two-to-five-year-olds at the Kiwanis East Bayshore playground.
That contract was for just under $40,000.
A report by manager of parks Larry Glover states the quality and serviceability of components offered by ABC received higher ratings by the evaluation team than did the other bidders.
