Another day, another incident involving Belleville police having to deal with a violent individual.
Two officers on patrol around 9 last night (Friday) at the Waterfront Festival at Zwick’s park were told of a man acting strangely.
They found a drunk, aggressive man carrying a homemade spear with a sharp end.
He wouldn’t obey the officers and police had to wrestle him to the ground. During the struggle police say the man came up with a large knife. Police had to taser him to make the arrest.
A hammer was found under his belt. The man was not hurt, but one police officer suffered a minor hand injury.
A 30 year old Belleville man is in custody, and is charged with assault with a weapon, assault police, resist arrest, possession of dangerous weapons, and breach of probation.
On Thursday, a Belleville police officer had to run down a man trying to escape from an alleged crime scene. The 32 year old Toronto man fought with the officer and tried to grab the officer’s handgun. However, he was unsuccessful and was
arrested. A taser was not deployed in that incident.
