A local police officer has been honoured for the work he’s doing in area schools.
Stirling-Rawdon Police Constable Jarrett Rutledge has been awarded the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, School Resource Officer Award of Excellence, recognizing his commitment to the overall well-being of students in the community.
Along with helping to resolve issues like bullying, assaults and drug use, he also runs multiple education programs, like the D.A.R.E. drug awareness initiative and a community Youth Sports Night.
The OACP says through his engagement, Rutledge has been able to diminish some of the barriers that sometimes exist between students and authoritiy figures, like police and school staff.
Rutledge was honoured for his work at the recently held OACP Annual Meeting in Niagara Falls.
