A working alarm system and fast response from Prince Edward County firefighters contained the damage caused by a fire at the Royal Canadian Legion in Picton late last night.
County Fire Chief Scott Manlow says crews quickly knocked down a fire in a large room in the southeast corner of the first floor of the Legion and stopped the flames from spreading to the rest of the building.
The call came in just before midnight and the Legion was closed and unoccupied.
There were no injuries.
There was fire damage to the one room, which contained furniture, an e bike, a pool table and lots of wartime memorabilia.
There was smoke damage throughout the building.
Chief Manlow says about $250,000 damage was done, adding the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
