Zwick’s Park in Belleville was packed Friday for the Canada Day holiday.
Speakers at the opening ceremonies included the head of the Canada Day Committee Dwayne Barratt, MP Neil Ellis, MPP Todd Smith, and Fire Chief Mark MacDonald, among others.
Speaking on behalf of city council was Councillor Garnet Thompson, who “was happy to say that Belleville was home to 79 different nationalities and was ready to welcome others.”
Chief of the Belleville Police Service Cory MacKay spoke of pride in community and country.
Planning is already underway for Canada’s 150th birthday next summer.
