A project to provide a home for one of Ontario’s best taxidermy collections is off to a good start.
The Jake de Vries Collection Group has just received $15,000 from the Prince Edward Stewardship Council, $7,500 from the Stark Family Fund, and Prince Edward County council is planning a grant of $22,000 next year.
The late Jake de Vries preserved nearly 500 specimens, from waterfowl to fish, to mammals, large and small.
The de Vries family wishes to move the collection, and an effort has begun to raise $275,000 so it can be placed into a refurbished “Green Barn” at the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village.
The barn needs a lot of work and fundraising by the Jake de Vries Group has now begun.
