The Quinte West OPP will be supporting a safe Quinte International Air Show weekend being held June 25th and June 26th at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton.
The rising popularity of drones and radio-controlled (RC) aircraft poses some new potential hazards to the event. The OPP reminds the public that airspace in the area of the military base is restricted and urges the public to leave these devices at home during the Air Show weekend.
The following are examples of Do Not Fly areas:
Closer than 9 km to any airport
Near populated areas or near large groups of people, including concerts, festivals, and fireworks shows
Near moving vehicles, highways, or anywhere a driver could be distracted
Anywhere that may interfere with first responders
Not following these guidelines can put lives, aircraft, and property at risk. If an officer feels that a drone or RC plane is being operated in an unsafe manner or dangerous manner ANYWHERE, the operator could be charged under the Criminal Code of Canada.
