Crime analysts with the Quinte West OPP conducted a three year study on motor vehicle thefts in the City of Quinte West (2013-2015). The data revealed that June historically has the highest amount of motor vehicle thefts.
Over the past three years, there have been a total of 77 motor vehicle thefts with 14 of these thefts occurring in the month of June.
The data suggests that the vast majority of motor vehicle thefts are being completed Thursday to Saturday nights, after the victims have gone to bed.
The Quinte West OPP Street Crime Unit has created a Focused Patrol strategy to help deter motor vehicle thefts this month. A high Police visibility approach will be utilized Thursday to Saturday nights in targeted areas.
Officers will dedicate vehicle patrols, bicycle patrols and foot patrols in three primary locations in Trenton, Frankford, and Bayside.
The OPP also encourages the public to be proactive and safe guard their own vehicles. Remember to lock your vehicle, and never leave your keys or other valuables stored inside.
