The children’s services agency just east of Belleville has launched a program to help children who are not directly in its care.
These are children in families that face situations of domestic violence, addiction or mental health issues.
For these families, finding a camp, making arrangements, paying the cost and getting the kids there is a major challenge.
Executive director of Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services, John Suart, says the agency wants to send them to summer camp.
Suart says the target is to raise $15,000 to send about 35 kids to camp.
The government funding doesn’t cover Summer Camp for these kids, who are receiving our services but who are not in the agency care and the agency depends on donors to make the Summer Camp program work. Last year, the agency sent more than 60 kids to camp.
