The man accused of discharging a firearm inside Quinte Secondary School and then robbing the downtown RBC bank on March 10 is waiving his right to request bail.
Tuesday, 40-year-old Zak Bayfield of Whitby appeared briefly by video before Justice of the Peace Christopher Peltzer at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse.
Like his quick appearance last week, the short man with short brown hair was calm and wearing a black V-Neck sweater with a white t-shirt underneath.
Court heard how, based on legal advice given from his Toronto based lawyer Steven Stauffer, Bayfield was waiving bail and consents to his detention until the conclusion of the matter.
Bayfield was recently denied bail in Toronto court as he is linked to multiple bank robberies stretching from the GTA to Belleville.
He was arrested by Toronto police in April following a month-long investigation involving a rash of bank robberies stretching from the GTA to Belleville.
In connection to incidents in Toronto, Markham, Burlington, Cobourg and Belleville, he’s charged with five counts each of robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent, use of a firearm while committing an offense and careless use, storage of a firearm, along with one count of robbery.
Belleville police have added six similar charges including discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Bayfield returns to court to speak to the Belleville charges on June 30 at 9:30 a.m.
