Development is booming in the city of Belleville in 2016.
Belleville’s planning committee learned Monday night that by the end of May development in the city had hit just under $50 million and and was continuing.
Director of Engineering and Development Rod Bovay says he anticipates more happening this year.

Bovay says he looks forward to development at the former Zellers building on Bell Boulevard which has emerged from bankruptcy with a new owner.
There are plans for a new “stand alone” restaurant on a pad at the site and at least two tenants have signed up.
Bovay says new housing construction is also ahead of last year, sitting at 118 homes when the total for all of 2015 was 175.
